How long should it take your school to develop an IEP?

What are the required timelines for the evaluation process?

(4)(b) Students suspected of having a disability must be evaluated within a period of time not to exceed sixty (60) school days of which the student is in attendance or for pre-kindergarten (PreK) children, not to exceed sixty (60) school days.

Districts must ensure that all assessments needed to complete the evaluation are administered within the 60-day timeline and that an eligibility staffing meeting to determine whether the student is an eligible student with a disability is conducted with no undue delay.

However, the intent of the timeline is to ensure that appropriate special education and related services are provided to a student with a disability with no undue delay.

What is an IEP?

Individualized Education Plan (IEP) developed for your child is much more than a piece of paper. It represents a collective agreement between you the parent, and the school (as well as other involved parties), in the development and implementation of specific educational services designed to benefit your child.

The IEP is a critical element of Exceptional Student Education.
